The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and Bulova are partnering in honor of Bulova’s 150th Anniversary to invite your Design Department / School of Design to be part of a Competition that celebrates Wright’s work and design philosophy and Bulova’s 150 years of excellence in watch making.
The Winning design will receive a $25,000 donation for their schools Design Department.
The winning Student will receive, an expense paid trip for 2 (up to a $6,495 value) to Visit Taliesin West in Scottsdale AZ the home of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and Wright’s winter home along with design recognition in online posts and if the watch is produced an acknowledgement in each watch package.

RULES & CONDITIONS
1. GENERAL
• The Bulova 150th Anniversary “Shaping Time” Design Contest in partnership with The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation (the “Contest”) begins on November 11, 2024, at 12:00:01 pm Eastern Time, and ends on December 31, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (the “Contest Period”). Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted nor considered. Eligible contestants may enter by following the steps set out in paragraph 4 of these Official Rules. The prize is described in paragraph 8 with a verifiable retail value of approximately $6,495 (plus the $25,000 grant to the winner’s school as described in Rule 8). One prize winner will be selected on or about February 3, 2025. THE CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED.
2. ELIGIBILITY
• The Contest is open only to senior and graduate-level industrial design students who, at the time of entry are at least 18 years of age or older, and enrolled at one of the following design schools: the Pratt Institute (Pratt), Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Cranbrook Academy of Art (Cranbrook), School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), Otis College of Art and Design (Otis), The Design School of Arizona State University (ASU), Parsons School of Design (Parsons), and the University of Washington School of Art + Art History + Design (Washington).
• The Contest is free to enter.
• Participation constitutes full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and decisions of the Contest Judging Panel and Jury Panel (as defined below) which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.
• Contestants must have no prior professional relationship with Bulova, the Citizen Watch Group, or the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Employees, officers, directors of Citizen Watch Group, or the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, advertising, promotional, fulfillment and marketing agencies, as well as members of the Contestants' immediate families (defined as parents, children, siblings, and spouse), and any individuals residing in the same household as the Contestant (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate in or win the Contest.
3. SPONSOR

4. HOW TO ENTER
• How to Enter: During the Contest Period, visit www.bulova.com/franklloydwrightcontest to access the Contest page and follow the instructions to enter the Contest. Entrants must have a valid e-mail address at the time of entry and must complete all required information for entry to be eligible. Limit one (1) submission per person. Multiple submissions per person, including multiple submissions by the same person using different address/e-mail addresses, will invalidate ALL submissions submitted by that person for the entire Contest Period.
• By making a submission, you understand and agree that your submission may become published as part of the Contest and you agree to such publication.
5. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
• Designs must be inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s design principles and Bulova’s history but cannot replicate existing Wright works.
• Submissions must include 2D and/or 3D renderings in .ai vector format, accompanied by a description (max. 750 words) explaining the design concept and how it builds upon Wright design legacy.
• Submissions must focus on the watch’s face, indices, case, and band, excluding packaging or supplementary materials.
• All designs must incorporate the Frank Lloyd Wright Collection logo, Bulova logo, and the unique Frank Lloyd Wright-specific crown (the “Bulova and FLW Logos”) which can be found at www.bulova.com/franklloydwrightcontest.
• Designs may not include references to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Fallingwater, or SC Johnson Headquarters.
• Upon request, the ten (10) finalists (see selection process below) will be invited to submit a 3-minute video introducing their original design work and explaining their design process to the Judging Panel.
6. ORIGINALITY
• All submissions must be the original work of the Contestant (other than the incorporated Bulova and FLW Logos) and must not infringe upon any third-party intellectual property rights.
• Submissions will not replicate any historic design by Wright
• Designs must celebrate the forms and processes of nature while embodying the design legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright.
7. SELECTION OF FINALISTS AND WINNER
• All submissions will be judged initially by a panel of judges to select ten (10) finalists. The initial selection of the 10 finalist designs will be conducted by a 5-person panel, consisting of 2 representatives from the FLW Foundation and 3 from Bulova (the “Judging Panel”). This Judging Panel will review all entries and vote to determine the top 10 designs that will advance to the public voting stage. After this phase, the Judging Panel will no longer participate in the selection process. The final Winner will be chosen solely at the discretion of a separate “Jury Panel,” whose decision is final and independent of previous stages. The Judging Panel will apply the criteria of originality, artistic merit, best expression of the spirit and design legacy of both Frank Lloyd Wright and Bulova, and public appeal. As part of the assessment of the public appeal factor, the Judging Panel may take into account the result of the voting by members of the public per the next paragraph.
•During the period from January 13, 2025 to January 23, 2025(the “Voting Period”) submissions may be posted at www.bulova.com/Frank Lloyd Wright contest for public viewing and voting. Sponsor reserves the right to decide whether any submission in fact becomes posted as well as to remove any posting in Sponsor’s absolute discretion. The results of the voting will not determine finalists, but may be taken into account by the Judging Panel, in their discretion, as one factor in their determination of the public appeal factor. Limit one(1) vote per person, and per email address. Use of script, macro or any device to automate voting, hiring outsourced vote-farming services, paying for votes, or engaging in any other conduct deemed inappropriate, disruptive or unsportsmanlike as determined by Sponsor in its discretion, is prohibited, and any votes received through such means will be void. Any attempt by any voter or Contestant to submit or solicit more than the stated number of votes by using multiple/different email addresses, identities or any other method will void that person’s votes and submission (if any), and he/she may be disqualified from further voting or other participation in the Contest.
•Within approximately 5 days after the conclusion of the Voting Period, ten (10) finalists will be selected by the Judging Panel applying the criteria outlined above.
•The ten (10) potential finalists will be invited, using the contact information provided with their original submission, to submit a 3-minute video introducing the design, explaining their design process, and how the design concept connects to Wright’s design legacy. Potential finalists also may be required to sign and return a declaration of eligibility, assignment of rights, and liability and publicity release. Failure to comply when requested, or to submit the requested video, may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate finalist, time permitting.
•The Jury Panel will evaluate each of the ten (10) final designs and the supplemental materials supplied by the designer(s) to select the final winning design using the same criteria outlined above, as well as assessment of the persuasiveness, sincerity, and quality of the content in the finalists’ videos. Final selection will occur on or about February 3, 2025.
•Only one (1) winning design will be selected from the group of ten (10) finalists.
•The Jury Panel will include industry leaders and design professionals to be named prior to the selection of the ten (10) finalists.
•The winning design may be produced by Bulova and released as a limited-edition watch. The school will be credited for supporting the designer. However, if no submission is deemed of sufficient quality for product, Bulova reserves the right not to produce the limited-edition watch.
8. AWARD & RECOGNITION
• A $25,000 cash prize will be awarded to the Winner’s school of design, to be used at the school’s discretion.
• One (1) room for Winner and his/her guest for a five-night stay at Taliesin West, located in Scottsdale, Arizona, subject to availability (type of room to be selected by the Foundation in its sole discretion). The winner must acknowledge and complete the Taliesin West Guest Policy attached herein as Exhibit (A).
• One (1) domestic round-trip flight, economy class with at least one possible layover, for the Winner and his/her guest to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona. Ground transportation may be substituted in place of air transport if the winner lives within 150 miles of Taliesin West.
The trip must be booked at least forty-five (45) days prior to the intended travel dates and must occur prior to 12/31/2025 in coordination with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Travel dates are subject to availability; blackout dates and other restrictions may apply. Winner and his/her guest are responsible for having valid travel documents including government identification and/or passports. Winner is responsible for all travel expenses not included herein, including airline baggage fees, gratuities, meals, and any other incidental costs or expenses related to participation in this prize.
If winner and/or winner’s guest is a minor, he/she must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian who must sign and return all required documentation. Minor must be accompanied at all times during trip (including, but not limited to, in-flight, hotel stay and all prize-related events) by minor’s parent or legal guardian.
Winner and each of his or her guest hereby acknowledge that Bulova has not and will not obtain or provide travel insurance or any other form of insurance for any part of the trip. Once travel guest is selected, he/she may not be substituted, except in Bulova's sole and absolute discretion. Airline tickets are non-refundable/non-transferable and are not valid for upgrades and/or frequent flyer miles. All airline tickets are subject to flight variation, work stoppages, and schedule or route changes. Winner will be solely responsible for all in-room charges and any damage to the room. Sponsor bears no responsibility if any event, element or detail of the Award is canceled, postponed or becomes unavailable for any reason. Major credit card will be required at hotel check-in for any incidental charges.
• The winning designer will receive one (1) limited-edition Bulova watch, estimated retail value of $495.00, based on their completed design, unless no such design is deemed of sufficient quality for production.
• Approximate retail value of total prize is $6,495; any difference between actual and estimated value will not be awarded.
• By accepting a prize, the winning designer’s name and likeness may be used in advertising, promotional, and merchandising materials at the discretion of Bulova and/or the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
• The winner is solely responsible for all federal, state and/or local taxes, and for any other fees or costs associated with acceptance or use of any prize. The potential winner must continue to comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. • Any proposed guest (or parent/guardian) may also be required to sign and return a liability release. Failure to comply when requested may result in disqualification and award of prize to an alternate winner, time permitting.
9. DESIGN PRODUCTION
• The winning design may not be manufactured exactly as submitted. Bulova will oversee production and will provide final specifications regarding size and shape. The design may be altered for production purposes by Bulova, but it will maintain the core elements submitted by the designer.
• The design, if deemed of sufficient quality for product, will be released as a limited-edition item.
10. USAGE RIGHTS IN SUBMISSIONS
By submitting an entry to the contest, each Contestant acknowledges that Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation may use or not use each Contestant’s entry in their discretion. No guaranty is made that any design/submission will be posted for public viewing or voting.
11. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ASSIGNMENT
All design entries and other materials submitted therewith (the "Entry Materials") that are submitted by Contestants become Bulova’s and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundations’ property upon submission, regardless of whether the Contestant who submits the Entry Materials wins, and by submitting the Entry Materials, each Contestant assigns all rights in those materials, including but not limited to the rights of trademark and copyright, to Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Entry Materials will not be returned to any Contestant. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, and in consideration of the opportunity to participate, Contestants acknowledge and agree that they will not challenge Bulova’s and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundations’ rights to use, edit, modify, reproduce, display (in any medium), and make derivative works of the Entry Materials, Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation will not compensate them for the Entry Materials. Bulova’s and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundations’ rights, with respect to Entry Materials, include, but are not limited to: (a) the exclusive right to use, publish, display or reproduce the Entry Materials on products, packaging, advertising for purposes of trade and any other lawful purpose; (b) the exclusive right to alter, revise or change the Entry Materials in any way; (c) the exclusive right to secure trademark and copyright registrations and other rights for the Entry Materials anywhere throughout the world in their name; (d) the exclusive right to license, exploit, sell, assign, or otherwise dispose of the Entry Materials or any of the said rights included therein for any purpose which Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation may see fit; and (e) any and all subsidiary rights to the Entry Materials. Participation in the contest does not grant any right to the Contestant to any Bulova or Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation trademark, patent, copyright, design, or other right of Bulova or Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, excluding the Contestant’s s right to use the Bulova and FLW Logos in the Entry Materials.
12. WAIVER OF MORAL RIGHTS
To the extent permitted by law, Contestants hereby waive any and all moral rights, "droit moral," or similar rights in connection with their Submission, including but not limited to the right to be credited or to object to any changes, alterations, or modifications made to their Submission by Bulova.
13. NO RETURN OF SUBMISSIONS
No Submission will be returned to the Contestant. Once submitted, the Contestant will have no further rights to the Submission and acknowledges that Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation may use, alter, or dispose of the Submission at their discretion without any obligation to the Contestant.
14. WARRANTY OF ORIGINALITY
By entering the contest, each Contestant represents and warrants that their Submission is original, created solely by them, and does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights or any other rights of any third party. The Contestant also warrants that they have full rights and authority to assign the intellectual property rights in the Submission to Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation as provided in these terms.
15. INDEMNIFICATION
Contestants agree to indemnify and hold harmless Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, their affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents, from and against any and all claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from or related to any breach of the representations and warranties set forth in these terms and conditions, or any third-party claims related to intellectual property infringement associated with the Submission.
16. USE OF SUBMISSIONS
Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation reserves the right to use the Submission for any purpose, including but not limited to marketing, advertising, promotion, and the production and sale of products incorporating the Submission, without further compensation or notification to the winner. This includes the right to edit, modify, or adapt the Submission as deemed necessary by Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
17. PUBLICITY RELEASE
By submitting a design to the contest, Contestants grant Bulova, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and their affiliates the right to use the Contestant’s name, likeness, biographical information, and Submission for advertising, promotional, and publicity purposes, without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
18. GOVERNING LAW
These terms and conditions and any disputes arising therefrom shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of laws principles, and Contestants hereby consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts located in New York for any disputes arising out of or relating to the contest or these terms and conditions.
19. GENERAL CONDITIONS
Bulova and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation reserves the right to cancel, modify, or suspend the contest or any part of it, at its sole discretion, if it determines that the contest is not capable of running as planned, including due to fraud, technical failures, or any other factor that could affect the integrity or proper functioning of the contest.
20. NO EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP
• Participation in the contest does not create an employment relationship between the Contestant and Bulova or the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. Contestants acknowledge that they are entering the contest voluntarily and will not receive any compensation for their Submission other than as expressly provided in the contest's official rules.
• These terms ensure that all intellectual property rights of the submitted designs are transferred to the contest host, along with protections for the host against potential claims.
21. LIABILITY & RELEASE
By participating in the Contest, each contestant agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsor, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and its advertising, promotional and judging agencies (the “Contest Entities”) from and against any and all liability, injuries, loss, claim, damages, or cause of action arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use, misuse or possession of any prize, including, but not limited to: (a) human error or unauthorized human intervention in the Contest; (b) technical errors related to computers, servers, providers, telephone or network lines or failure to receive entry information by Sponsor on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site or any combination thereof; (c) printing errors; (d) lost, late, misdirected, illegible, garbled or damaged entries; (e) errors in the administration of the Contest or the processing of entries; or (f) injury or damage to persons, including death, or property (including computers) which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt of any prize. By entering the Contest, you further agree that (a) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with the Contest, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved individually without resort to any form of class action; (b) any claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Contest, but in no event attorney’s fees; and (c) under no circumstances will any entrant be permitted to obtain any award for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased and any other damages, other than damages for actual out-of-pocket expenses. Contestants hereby acknowledge that Contest Entities have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any prize. LEGAL WARNING: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN INDIVIDUAL, WHETHER OR NOT AN ENTRANT, TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE, DESTROY, TAMPER OR VANDALIZE THE CONTEST WEBSITE OR INTERFERE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST, IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND DILIGENTLY PURSUE ALL REMEDIES AGAINST ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
22. SEVERABILITY
Each of the terms of these Official Rules operates separately. If any court of relevant authority decides that any of them are unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining terms will remain in full force and effect.
